SEVASTOPOL, 12 May. / TASS /. Sevastopol State University has received more than 200 million rubles for the development of a robot-diver, able to replace a person on dangerous underwater work. This was reported on Saturday by the press service of the university.
"Sevastopol State University received 206.6 million rubles for the development of a robot, which will replace the diver", – the report says. Funds received under the federal target program "Research and development in priority areas of development of Russia’s scientific and technological complex for 2014-2020".
The future development was commented on by Alexey Kabanov, the head of the department "Informatics and management in technical systems", which for three years will be engaged in the creation of a robot-diver. "Our robot should replace the risky work of a diver, he will have manipulators – designs that resemble human hands, the complex will be controlled by an operator equipped with an appropriate suit, the robot will copy the movements of his hands", – the university press service quotes Kabanov.
He also noted that such robots already exist, but the development of the Sevastopol university will have distinctive features. "We want to increase the robot’s autonomy so that it can perform more tasks without an operator, so that the operator can train it", – explained Kabanov.
The partner of the Sevastopol university is the Moscow NGO "Android Technology".
