MOSCOW, May 30 – RIA Novosti. Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the birthday of Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, who first went into outer space, noting his contribution to the development of Russian cosmonautics, according to the Kremlin website.

Aleksey Arkhipovich Leonov was born in 1934; Being an astronaut, Leonov became the first person to go into open space. He was twice awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

Both in our country and far beyond its borders you are known and respected as a worthy representative of the legendary detachment of Soviet cosmonauts, a brilliant professional, staunch and courageous man who first stepped into open space", Says the telegram.
The Russian president noted the contribution that Alexei Leonov made to the development of Russian cosmonautics, the popularization of her outstanding achievements.
