MOSCOW, 3 June – RIA Novosti. Scientists from Moscow state University, MEPhI and the Miata studied properties "quantum vampires" – special particles of light, leaving no "shadows" with the disappearance. Their findings were presented in a paper in the journal Optica.

"Our group has theoretically and experimentally demonstrated that this effect can also work for classical thermal States of light. This shows that the effect is not based on quantum entanglement and classical correlations"– says Konstantin Katamadze, a physicist from Moscow state University named after M. V. Lomonosov.

Four years ago researchers from the Russian quantum center has opened a very curious phenomenon. Observing the behavior of entangled particles of light, Alexander Lvovsky, Yuri Kurochkin, Ilya Fedorov and Alexander Ulanov noticed that "destruction" one of the photons with translucent mirror almost does not affect the state of other particles.

In other words, they disappeared without a trace, leaving "shadows" or disrupting the involvement of other particles of light. For this reason, scientists call this phenomenon "the effect of the quantum vampire" and suggested that it is of a purely quantum nature.

Experiments Katamadze and his colleagues suggest that it is likely not the case – like many other examples of unusual behavior of photons, opened in recent years, "quantum vampirism" can be quite classical in nature, is explainable within the theories of Newton and Einstein.

For example, in this case, as noted Katamadze, there are no hints that the effects on "eat" photon instant changes the behavior of other particles of light, "breaking" the speed of light.
