For the first time in three years, Microsoft has outperformed Alphabet Holding in terms of capitalization. The difference in the market value between the developer of Windows and the owner of Google was almost $ 10 billion, reports CNBC.
On Tuesday, by the close of trading on NASDAQ, Microsoft was valued at $ 749 billion, while Alphabet – at $ 739 billion. Both companies, in fact, switched places: Microsoft became the third most expensive company in the world, and Alphabet was in fourth place. The first and second line continue to hold Apple and Amazon, respectively.
Google entered the stock exchange in 2004, and eight years later caught up with Microsoft, debuting on the stock market in 1986. Over the next few years, rivals alternately swapped places. However, over the past 12 months, Redmond shares have risen in price by 40% – five times more than those of the search engine.
Microsoft and Google compete in various areas, including cloud computing, Internet search, artificial intelligence and speech recognition technologies.
